Are you an expression of God’s love? That is my desire for the coming year as I just celebrated my 83rd birthday. I asked the Lord what is His desire for me this year and it came clearly to me “Be an expression of my love”.
Recently I have experienced such expression of God’s love toward me and it warmed my spirit, renewed my strength, filled my with indescribable joy. It made me so aware of what a gift we have to give – that of being an “expression of God’s love”.
I believe it comes from the center of our heart. It is not a superficial hug or handshake but a genuine love and attention to those we encounter. How many times we say “nice to meet you” and proceed with our own agenda. I’m sure that if someone introduced you to Jesus he would momentarily, at least, give you his undivided attention.
Possibly it comes to placing value on people the way our Lord does. No one comes across our path casually. Every step of our lives our directed by the Lord . Psalm 37:23(NLT) says “The steps of the godly are direct by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives.” If we could treat every encounter of the day as sent by the Lord – would it help us to take the effort to express God’s love in a real and genuine way?
It is the prayer of my heart that in this coming year I will learn to express God’s love in every area of my life. It is a big goal – but I know that as I spend time in the presence of God He will fill me more and more with his perspective.
