“SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY”

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

This I declare of the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him”  Psalm 91:1

“The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.  I will protect those who trust in my name.

When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble.  I will rescue them and honor them.  I will satisfy them with a long life and give them my salvation.”  Psalm 91:14

Are you having a great month?  Or have you struggled with some things – perhaps feeling“blah” – a little empty – not feeling real “spiritual”.  I  know we all have our “ebb and flow” of emotions and  it helps to be reminded that we are not alone.  God gave us a great example in David.  He loved God – God saw in him a heart of love for God – but as we read the Psalms we see David express his valleys and mountaintops.  I thank God that He looks past what is on the surface and looks deep into my heart.

Once again, in a different way, I am understanding another aspect of faith!  Faith is knowing what you cannot see.  I have to remind myself of what I know – not what I am feeling.  I know that my life is directed by God through the indwelling Holy Spirit.  I know that he is causing me to develop daily into a stronger Christian even when I don’t see a shred of evidence of it!  I know that my feelings are the most undependable part of me.  If I followed my feelings my life would resemble that of a drunken sailor who has been in port about 3 days!  Somehow when we learn not todepend on our feelings we have a peace that all is well even when we don’t “feel” like all is well.  Our strength comes from what we know.  What we know comes from saturating ourselves with the word of God until it is so deep in our heart and belief system that it cannot be uprooted.  It is like putting away something for a rainy day.  When we have “put away” the word of God faithfully and stored it in the deep part of our life – when the rainy day comes it will keep us on course.  Today I thank God for the provision for my rainy day!

I can say with David “I find rest in the shadow of the Almighty!”

From my journal…

…..My child, my child.  I am so close to you on your “rainy day” that you cannot see me.  I love to see your faith grow and there must be opportunities that allow this growth.  Thank me and praise me when you least feel like it as it will produce the best fruit.
